Why Pre-Freezing Food Helps Freeze Drying

Pre-freezing means freezing food in a standard freezer before placing it into the freeze dryer. It can shorten total cycle time because the freeze dryer does not need to remove as much heat during the first stage. Pre-freezing also supports consistent results. When food is fully frozen before loading, the cycle begins more predictably, especially with dense foods. For best results, pre-freeze food in the same shape and thickness you plan to dry. Freeze flat, then load quickly to avoid thawing. Pre-freezing is optional, but it is especially helpful for high-moisture foods, thick meals, and large batches.
